Direct Geostatistical Seismic Amplitude Versus Angle Inversion for Shale Rock Properties

چکیده

The purpose of seismic reservoir characterization is to predict the spatial distribution subsurface rock properties from a set direct and indirect measurements. Commonly, property volumes are obtained in two-steps approach. First, elastic inverted reflection data then used compute by applying calibrated physics models. Such an approach not only time consuming but may also lead biased results as uncertainties related inversion be propagated through entire geomodeling workflow. Here, we propose iterative geostatistical shale AVA method invert directly for properties. workflow consists three main steps starting model generation brittleness, total organic carbon (TOC), porosity using stochastic sequential simulation cosimulation calculation volume shale. In following step, calculated based on self-consistent approximation. models synthetic data. final misfit between real part update parameter space. whole process repeated until minimum observed achieved. proposed successfully tested onshore Lower Paleozoic gas Northern Poland, predicted agree with those at blind-well location.

Geostatistical Seismic Inversion Using Well Log Constraints

Information about reservoir properties usually comes from two sources: seismic data and well logs. The former provide an indirect, low resolution image of rock velocity and density. The latter provide direct, high resolution (but laterally sparse) sampling of these and other rock parameters. An important problem in reservoir characterization is how best to combine these data sets, allowing the ...

Comparing Geostatistical Seismic Inversion Based on Spectral Simulation with Deterministic Inversion: A Case Study

Seismic inversion is a method that extracts acoustic impedance data from the seismic traces. Source wavelets are band-limited, and thus seismic traces do not contain low and high frequency information. Therefore, there is a serious problem when the deterministic seismic inversion is applied to real data and the result of deterministic inversion is smooth. Low frequency component is obtained fro...

Assisted Seismic Matching: Joint Inversion of Seismic, Rock Physics and Basin Modeling

In this study, we apply advanced numerical optimization techniques to extend the work of Imhof and Sharma (2005, 2006) to integrate geological and geophysical data and infer the sedimentary parameters that produce a match to seismic data. In particular, we seek to match not just event timing (phase) but also reflection strength (amplitude). This inverse problem of quantitatively matching presen...

Workflows for Sweet Spots Identification in Shale Plays Using Seismic Inversion and Well Logs

Worldwide interest in shale plays has rapidly increased in recently years, thanks to the combination of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. Shale formations act as both the source and the reservoir for the natural gas and usually exhibit anisotropic properties at larger scale. Geological and petropysical studies found that the right combination of thickness, TOC (total organic carbon)...
